Reason 4: For Fun
Blogs are fun. At least this blog is fun for me to do.
The second this blog feels like work, it will be its last second.
My approach to this blog is to post things that I find interesting that I come across in my practice. The entire Random CT laws section of this blog comes from me looking at the statutes index on Westlaw and seeing something like “seaweed.” Invariably, I’m searching for something else. I write down the statute and it becomes a blog entry.
If this the point of this blog was marketing, I think I would hate doing it.
Sometimes, I look at personal injury blogs that post “Fatal Accident on Route 9 in Middletown” and the entire entry is a link to a news story. Why do firms do this? My guess is that they hope that the family of the accident victim will google the accident at some point and click on the link to their blog and hopefully hire them. Yuck.
The partners of my firm in no way attempt to influence the content of this blog. This is a blessing. I get to enjoy doing the blog and you don’t get posted laced with search words.
If you are a lawyer and you are thinking of starting a blog, I say do it. If you do it right it will expand your horizions. If you are having fun it won’t seem like work.
If you are interested in trying your hand at blogging, I’m always looking for guest bloggers or if you want to start a blog but don’t know how (I didn’t) also drop me a line: rmckeen@lttnlaw.net . I’d be happy to have you as a guest here or to point you in the right direction in starting your own blog.
