Proposed Change to Mechanic’s Lien Statute

In my opinion, the best way for an unpaid contractor to get paid is to file a mechanic’s lien.

The legislature is presently considering a slight change to a lienor’s obligation to discharge a mechanic’s lien upon satisfaction of said lien.

Presently, Conn. Gen. Stat. Section 49-59  provides that upon satisfaction or final judgment on the lien, the lienor shall file a certificate that such lien has been removed on the land records upon the request of an interested party. Conn. Gen. Stat. Section 49-59.

House Bill 5580 would make the filing mandatory upon satisfaction of the lien.
