Will Someone Please Fix The CT Statute Indexes

This is a small issue but there’s no legal issue too small for this blog.

The indexes to the Connecticut General Statutes (the blue books put out by the State) are some form of cruel and unusual punishment.

The indexes are comprised of 3 seperate index books that are divided alphabetically.

There’s some logic to it but it escapes me.

For example, a few days ago, I had a narrow question about “child support.” So I went to my bookshelf, pulled the index that covered “C” and looked under the subject of child support. Logical enough.

I found child support and it read: “See, SUPPORT, at Children.” What?!?!?

Then I had to pull the “S” in a different book and look for “”SUPPORT, at Children.”

The indexes are littered with things like this and it drives me nuts. It has to be the least intuitive index on the planet.

“See this” is everywhere. So much so that it would often make sense to cite the statutes in two places in the index because doing so would be less ink. Seriously.

Have a beautiful Monday.
