Reason 3: To Inform
Being a lawyer is a privilege.
One of the proudest days of my life was being admitted as an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut.
Prior to law school, I had little understanding of our judicial system.
This blog is written primarily for two audiences: (1) the general public; (2) attorneys. I try to write blog entries that inform both the general public and other attorneys.
Sometimes, a blog entry is a product of something I experience. For example, I wrote this entry about taking wine home from Connecticut restaurants after seeing a restaurant tell a patron that was illegal. The question popped into my head: is it? I went home, checked the statutes and a blog entry was born.
Our legal system is complex and part of the objective of this blog is to shed some light on the system.
One of the best moments of having this blog came when I received an email from New London Attorney Matt Berger about Mary Hall. I’ve never met Matt but last year I read his article about Mary Hall in the Connecticut Bar Journal. Prior to reading Matt’s article about Mary Hall, I had never heard of her and her significant contribution to the practice of law in Connecticut.
I enjoy informing the public about absurd Connecticut laws. Did you know that a beer cannot legally be named “Moses Mother’s Day Ale” but “Buddha’s Father’s Day Lager” is entirely legal. I’d love to see the good people at the Cambridge Brew House put that law to the test.
In part this blog seeks to inform the public on issues large and small. Maybe if I’m lucky, I can prevent just one bottle of good wine from going down the drain at a restaurant.
